Riverside Park
We cleared growth along the Waikato River bank at Riverside Park Cambridge and planted low-growing grasses to ensure the view of the river is not obscured.
We planted a few trees as well. We spent several sessions doing this, and now we await growth of the plants over the next few years.
We chose species for Riverside Park Cambridge that will withstand inundation and river currents. The river can rise and fall several metres through flooding, and the level varies according to the demand of the 7 hydroelectric generators upstream.
Our choice of plants wasn't as good as we thought it was. Sustained high river levels in the winter of 2025 put Riverside Park Cambridge under water for some time. Most of the plants didn't survive.
