At 89 Thornton Rd, we have our nursery. Its size astonishes visitors at first, and it's well stocked. The photos show the buildings being erected and some of the plants we are growing.

Members whose health isn't very good, and those who just prefer to work in the nursery rather than tackle the field work, plant seeds and cuttings, repot plants that have outgrown their initial containers and get the morning tea under way.

Initially, the nursery was by the old gasworks, now the Gaslight Theatre. The gasworks produced town gas from coal, and when natural gas replaced it and the works was shut down there was room for our nursery. However, soil tests revealed a lot of contamination from the processes involved in making coal gas, and the nursery was shifted to its present site.
