Lake Karapiro Cambridge
Lake Karapiro Cambridge has been the home of high-performance rowing for decades. Recently, the high-performance canoe group has built a facility there, which is also used by waka ama and triathletes. The yacht club also has new premises. Earthworks for the new buildings left a bank which is too steep for safe mowing, so we were asked to plant it. This we did, over a couple of Tuesday mornings, with more to come when the additional area is cleared.
Lake Karapiro Cambridge is a valued amenity for the district. Lately it has been invaded by gold clams, and this is causing concern. However, it seems that the clams, being filter feeders like most shellfish, are helping to clean the water.
